Velma Gene Lusty, 92, died from natural causes July 24, 2019 at her home in Nampa, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 10, 1926 in Buffalo, WY the daughter of William Merrill Freese and Myrle Irene Gillaspy.
Gene graduated from Sheridan High School, Class of 1946. Following her graduation, she married Curtis E. “Red” Calanborn and four children were brought forth from this union Judy, Brenda, Jerry, and Billie. Gene later married Clint Hauck. They were married for 32 years. Clint went to be with the Lord in 2001. Gene then married Don Lusty of Nampa, ID who brought five more children into her life, Debbie Bloodhart, Periann McDonald (Mark), Robin Taylor (Jeff), Colleen Moon (Dan) and David Lusty (Dawn). Don and Gene loved one another and served the Lord until her death.
Gene lovingly served others as a health care provider at Eventide in Sheridian, WY and later in the VA Hospital in Fresno, CA. Many were blessed through her acts of selfless service and ministering to others. She loved to hunt, fish, garden, dance, and create quilts for family and others. She earned a pilot’s license and enjoyed traveling in small planes.
Gene is predeceased by, her parents; her son, Jerry; daughter, Brenda; three brothers; three sisters; and two husbands. She is survived by one sister, Beverly Morgan (Marshall), her husband, Don Lusty of Nampa, ID; daughters, Judy Bury (Jack Nielsen) and Billie Ingalls (Joseph); twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces; nephews; step-children; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of God of Prophecy, 11535 Smith Avenue, Nampa, ID on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Those who wish to celebrate Gene’s life are invited to attend.
