Sylvia Ann (Ward) Glencoe

Sylvia “Ann” (Ward) Glencoe, born June 28, 1948, passed peacefully in her sleep December 6, 2022, of complications triggered by a series of strokes. She was 74 years old. Being a devoted mother and grandmother was the central focus of her life. She also delighted her role as a doting aunt to a host of nieces and nephews.

She loved creating cozy, welcoming environments for those in her sphere. She had an intense curiosity about the world and its people. She loved art, history, architecture, and much more.  She even loved watching pro golf, though she never actually played the game. Despite her modest means, she traveled regularly throughout the U.S., Great Britain, and France to touch and see famous art and places for herself.

Ann spent her early adult years as a Navy wife. This brought both adventure and adversity. She held true to the example set by her pioneer ancestors of meeting hardship with determination and resilience, traits she encouraged in her children and many others whom she encouraged in their trying times.

Ann devoted much energy in her life to serving others, befriending those in need, and supporting the countless activities her children and grandchildren pursued. She was nearly always present for recitals and concerts, musicals and plays, graduations, and even the frequent elementary school award ceremonies. Her family was her life.

She is survived by her son, Matthew Glencoe (Constance Glencoe), daughters Carrie Rutherford (William Rutherford) and Susan Mobley (Curtis Mobley), 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and siblings Lea Ward and Marcus Ward. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Ezra Ward and Larry Ward.

A gathering to celebrate her life is planned for December 29, 2022, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 Tenth Avenue South, Nampa, ID.
