Roy Russell Vandeventer

August 18, 1932 ~ February 24, 2022 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Russ was born in Sheridan Wyoming on August 18, 1932, the youngest of 8 children. Sporting a mop of black hair as a baby, he was given the nickname of “Blackie” that he would keep throughout his Iife. At the age of 17 he left Wyoming and joined the Navy where he served on a destroyer in the Korean War. Upon discharge in 1952 Roy followed his parents to Nampa, Idaho.

In Nampa, Roy met the love of his life, Dorine Faye Endicott, and they were married on August 28, 1954. They made their life together in Idaho in various central and northern mountain towns until finally settling down back at Nampa where Roy began his career at Amalgamated Sugar. He developed lasting Iife-long relationships at the sugar factory and rose to the position of Assistant Master Mechanic.

Roy enjoyed his horses, especially high-country trail riding with special friends and family. These trips were as much about fishing as they were riding. Roy enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in sporting and academic events.  And of course, there was Louis L'Amour and Matt Dillon.

Dorine passed in 2014. Roy continued to guide his 3 children, 14 grandchildren, and 22 great grandkids until the time he left us. He is survived by Russ Vandeventer, Debra Learned, and Tim and Tami Vandeventer, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He will always be remembered as a hardworking, ethical, strong, and compassionate man among his peers. He will be remembered by his family as a loving father who was as strong as he had to be, but always fair.
