August 26, 1932 ~ February 26, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Tribute

Richard (Dick) J. Kersting, 90, passed peacefully on 2/26/23 surrounded by family. He was born in E. Grand Rapids MI on August 26, 1932 to Chester Kersting and Helen Bogard.

Throughout the years he migrated west to Cheyenne WY where he worked on a ranch. The cold weather wasn’t for him so he moved to Idaho where he was a co-owner and disc jockey for KFXD. After selling his portion he went to work in the administration Department of St Luke’s.

He wanted to serve his community in another capacity so he went where his heart and passion took him, which was law enforcement. He worked for Ada County Sheriff’s Office from 1971-1997 in several departments, but he enjoyed patrol the most. Retirement wasn’t for him so he went to work for the Boise City Police where he was an officer, then worked in operations at the Boise Airport. He retired from there in 2009. During this time he also drove bus for Boise Winnemucca Stages and Boise Motor Escort as a hobby.

Dick loved to sail on his sailboats, pilot his airplanes, scuba diving, bike riding, ride his Harleys, horseback riding, exploring nature, and spending time with his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and his two sons, Kerry and Rick.

He is survived by his wife Sherry; children Lynn (Russell) Waring, Carol Wasden, David (Jill) Kersting, Debbie (Doug) Thomas, Amy Oliver (Rob) Preinesberger and stepson Shane. He also leaves behind 8 grandkids, 10 great grandkids; sister Mikki (Ron) Ogilbee; and all his fur babies.

The family invites all who knew Dick to join in celebrating his life on March 25, 2023 at 2:00 pm, at the Potomac Manor Event Center, 7311 W Potomac Dr, Boise, ID 83704.
