Mildred Georgine Ross

July 8, 1923 ~ April 30, 2020 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Tribute

Georgine Ross left this earth peacefully to be with her Lord on April 30, 2020.

She was born in Chappell, Nebraska on July 8,1923 to Harold N. Bixby and Sylvia (Truax) Bixby.  She shared her life with 4 siblings:  two sisters and two brothers.  The family moved several times when Georgine was young, eventually settling in Nampa, Idaho, where she spent 76+ years.

She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1940.  It was there that she met Eldon Beer and later married in 1941. In 1951, she and Eldon moved to Buhl, Idaho where they bought the John Deere Implement Company.  At that time, they were blessed with the adoption of a baby boy, whom they named Barney.  Over her life, she mentioned several times that ,“he brought the greatest of joys to their lives”.

In 1957, they sold the company and returned to Nampa.  Eldon passed away in 1974.  Georgine worked a short time for Braun Studios until going to work for Idaho Power, where she spent 27 years until her retirement in 1984.

Following her retirement in 1984, she bought a home in Yuma, Arizona, where she spent several winters “snowbirding”.  When her son’s health began to deteriorate, Georgine returned to Nampa permanently, to assist in his care until his untimely death in 2012.

Georgine was an avid sports participant.  She was an accomplished bowler, winning many awards, including membership in the “600” Bowling Club. She served as a bowling instructor and as secretary of the Bowling Leagues for many years at the “Bulldog Bowl”.

She was well known for her support to the Boise State Broncos.  During the BSU football season, she was consistently dressed in orange and blue.  If you lived close to her, you could hear her screaming and yelling for her team.  As her vision began to fail, she purchased larger TVs because “she liked to see the players sweat”.

She was a devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene.  She carried a deep commitment to serving her Lord in her thoughts, prayers and actions.  She loved being involved with the activities and people at the church.  She was a figure head there, enjoying many positions.

Georgine was an extremely talented person.  She involved herself in many crafts:  crocheting, oil painting, scratch art, needlework, macrame, jewelry making, and rug making.  She was an accomplished musician, playing both the organ and the piano.  She entertained many with her singing.

She loved to travel and visited many countries during her retirement: Canada, Mexico, and the Fiji Islands.  She also ventured several times to the Caribbean and Hawaii. She was always up for a new adventure.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, siblings Jean Bixby, Berl (Makinson), Rex and Rodney Bixby, nephew Steven Bixby, and niece Virginia Makinson.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Orin Makinson, nephews David, Mike, Ron, and Stu Bixby, Jon Nicholson, nieces Valerie Dawidczik, Jan McCasland, Wendy Ricks, Kelly and Cris Nicholson.

Much appreciation is given to Jeff Reimers, PA-C at Primary Health in Nampa, Idaho, who provided her with over 30 years of care, Mickey Weimer, St. Alphonsus Hospice staff, and Aspen Valley Senior Living Community, Boise, Idaho for their loving attentions.

Donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the First Church of the Nazarene in her name.  A funeral service will be held on June 26th at 11am at the First Church of the Nazarene: 601 16th Ave S, Nampa, ID 83651.
