Mary Ann Mears, 89, went home to be with her Savior on March 1, 2020 due to complications following a stroke.
She was born March 8, 1930 in Thermopolis, Wyoming to Ruby and Charles Punteney, she was the oldest of three girls.
She met and married, Robert Kastner, and together they had four children, Richard, Robert, Maree, and Connie. She later met and married, Paul Mears, in September 1973. They made their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico and after retirement moved to Conchas Dam, New Mexico.
After Paul’s death in 2007, she moved to Nampa, Idaho to be close to her son and family. It was there that she renewed her faith in the Lord, and began attending Treasure Valley Baptist Church. Her love for the Lord grew and became evident in her joy of attending church, daily Bible reading, and her walk with the Lord.
Mary had a variety of hobbies, not the least of which were gardening, sewing, and oil painting. She was also known for her fantastic cooking and being the “wash machine queen”. The joke was, you would barely have the item of clothing off of you before she had it washed, dried, and put away. As far as her love of gardening and cooking: the spring sun would barely have come out before she wanted a flat of flowers; and if you ever got a hankering for a fantastic chile relleno, she was the best!
Mary is survived by three of her children, Robert Kastner, Maree Edmo, and Connie Kastner; nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mears; son, Richard Kastner; sisters, Lois Doak and Betty Jo Miller.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S., Nampa. Graveside services will be held at 9:45 am on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, 67 6th St. N., Nampa with a church service following at 11:00 am at Treasure Valley Baptist Church, 1300 S.
