Maria Del Rosario Beltran

Maria Del Rosario Trujillo de Beltran, was born on February 15, 1940 to Jose Alfonso and Maria Feliza  in Guatemala City, Guatemala.  She graduated as a secretary at the age of 18 and worked for different lawyers and accountants for seven years.  Her job duties included bookkeeping skills because she was responsible to balance out the books.  It was major responsabilities but very low pay.  She decided to move to the United States, but it took her two years to convince her parents to let her go.  Her parents finally decided to let her go, but she had to do all the visa arrangements on her own.  She got to work  on her visa formalities and a job agency in Guatemala to have a job in Los Angeles, California.  She and her friend Ruth left Guatemala when they were 25 years old.  On the airplane they cried all the way because they were leaving their parents and siblings.  When they got to Los Angeles the agency drove them to their new jobs as domestic helpers.  She worked as a domestic helper for several years until she was able to apply for a permanent resident’s card.  She became a permenant resident and worked in different jobs in factories and hotels.  She worked hard to bring her father with a visa.  She and her father worked hard to bring the rest of the family wih their resident’s cards.   In 1970, she went back to Guatemala and got married to her boyfriend.  She brought him to Los Angeles, had a daughter, but the marriage ended in divorce.  She raised her daughter on her own.

 In 1979, she worked in Beverly Hills Hotel in the pantry making sandwhiches and salads when she met the love of her life Benjamin.  They got married in 1980 and had two boys.  Their oldest son died at birth.  It was a very difficult time.  In 1993 they decided to move to Idaho after her dad died, the Los Angeles Riots, and the recession.  Here in Idaho they were able to accomplish their finacial goals, and tranquility. 

In January 1994, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor had surgery and six weeks of radation.  She overcame and went back to work and had a normal life.  Also, in that year in May of 1994 she became a U.S. citizen.  In 2003 she retired to take care of her dauther that also recovered from a brain tumor.  In 2004 she decided that she didn’t like being retired, so she became a school foster grandparent for 15 years.  She enjoyed being around the children and teachers.  She thought the children so many things and she also learned new thing from the new generations.  At the end of 2004 she had her first grandson and two other granddaughters followed in 2015 and 2019.

She had a good life after her brain surgery in 1994, but the six weeks of radiation caused her to have seizures over the years that were mistakenly diagnosed as mini strokes.  She was also diagnosed with dementia in her later years that unfortunately took her life on March 12, 2024.

Maria was survived by her husband, Benjamin, daughter Mirna, Son Luis and daughter-in-law Kathryn, and three grandchildren: Davien, Alyson, and Sophia, sister Norma and brother Carlos and seven nieces and nephews and four great-nieces.
