Maria I Barrera

February 8, 1938 ~ December 28, 2020 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

Maria Inez Guillen Barrera of Nampa, Idaho passed away Monday, December 28th, 2020 at the age of 82. Maria was born on February 8th, 1938 in El Lobo, Querétaro, Mexico.

Maria moved to the United States in 1953. She lived in Texas, Arizona, California, and Washington before finally settling in Idaho in 1957.

Maria moved to the U.S. seeking a new way of life and a place to raise a family. She worked hard most of her life to provide for her family. Initially, as a migrant worker, she picked cotton, oranges, plums, cherries, and grapes. Upon settling down she worked at Simplot, Birdseye, Western Idaho Potato, Boulevard Veterinary, and Carnation/Nestle from which she finally retired. She made many memories and friendships along the way that she often spoke fondly of.

Through hard work and perseverance, Maria had overcome many obstacles and achieved many goals, none of which she was prouder of than her 8 children, 21 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. We will all miss her genuine love for everyone, her generosity, her humor, and her fabulous cooking.

Mom, we are forever grateful for your sacrifices, proud of your achievements, and thankful for the heritage and ethics that you have taught us. You will forever live in our hearts and memories.

Maria was a member of the Nampa Apostolic Church. She found comfort and faith in the church and was strong in her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Maria is survived by her children, Martin Barrera Jr. of Nampa, Manuel (Kim) of Caldwell, Marcelino of Boise, Steve of New Orleans, La., Diane of Nampa, Tim (LaDawn) of Nampa and Tina Jones (Terry) of Winter Springs, FL. Maria is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her husband Martin Barrera Sr., daughter Mary Barrera, brother Nasario Guillen and her parents Sirenio and Clara Guillen.

Maria had many lifelong friends that were all like family to her. Our family would like to especially thank Gloria Flores, Norma Arias, and Angelica Gomez for providing endless support, compassion, and friendship.
