Lloyd Nealand Simmons, 87, of Nampa, died Friday, April 13, in a local nursing home. He was born in Nampa, October 21, 1929, the son of Miller and Bertha Simmons.
He attended schools in Nampa, and after graduation, started a long career in the grocery business. Eventually he became co-owner of East Cleveland Market in Caldwell.
He met his future wife, Eleanor McCandless, at a girl-ask-boy school dance, and from then on they were inseparable, marrying three years later and becoming the parents of three daughters.
He is survived by his wife; Eleanor, daughters; Deborah Odegaard of Las Vegas, NV, Tammy Lamb of Albuquerque, NM, and Vicki Lawyer (& Bill Wright) of Tijeras, NM, three grandchildren; Ciara Wright, Michelle Shepherd, and Jenifer Rutledge, four great grandchildren, niece; Linda Minor ( & Doug), and cousins; Marilyn Hultz and Bob Hultz.
Proceeding him in death was his sister; Marjorie Logan, brother; Leo Simmons, and grandson; Christopher Raff.
As a quiet mild person, Lloyd was very proud of his 6,000 classical record collection and a menagerie of pets through the years ending with one very special cat, Abby. He enjoyed traveling, arm-chair traveling, and gardening. His favorite place was home.
We can’t express enough thanks for the wonderful staff at Sunny Ridge long-term care where he lived his last two years. He was a member of Pet Haven almost from the start. At his request there will be no services.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Avenue South, Nampa, Idaho 83651.
