Our mother, Kathryn Louise Ekhoff, slipped away from us on February 3, 2018, surrounded by family at Karcher Estates.

She was a very hard worker, believed in staying fit and looking good, and at times showed her feisty side. She enjoyed playing cards with family and games with the grandchildren who were always surprised by her knowledge and dry humor.

Much of her childhood was spent in Wyoming and the Colorado area until moving to the Marsing area of Idaho as a teenager. She graduated from Marsing High School as class valedictorian in 1941. On June 29, 1942 she married, John A. Ekhoff, in the Methodist Church in Seattle, Washington. Upon John’s return from Europe, after serving three years with the Army, the remaining years were spent in Nampa raising a family. They celebrated 29 years of marriage before his passing in 1970. She then learned to drive a car and joined the workforce as an employee of the Idaho Department Store until her retirement.

She enjoyed traveling, there were only two states left to mark off on her list; North Dakota and Hawaii. Thanks to her son, John, serving in the United States Air Force, she was able to explore Europe and England.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Ekhoff; parents, James and Gertrude Law; son, Jerry A. Ekhoff; two brothers, James A. Law and Donald Law; Sister-in-law Mildred Law. She was also preceded in death by all her brothers and sisters-in-law on the Ekhoff side along with several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Jean Law; her two children, Joanne (Robert) Smith and John F. (Effie) Ekhoff; seven grandchildren, Roy (Kim) Smith, Kathy (Shawn) Marsh, John A. (Elisabeth) Ekhoff, Julie Ekhoff, Josh (Rheanne) Ekhoff, Allison (Brand) Adams, and Stephen Ekhoff; five greatgrandchildren, Jessica (Josh) Cantrell, Ashley (Mark) Pernell, Zachary (Jordan) Marsh, Elena Smith, and Marie Smith; nine great-greatgrandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Karcher Estates and the caring nurses with Encompass Home Health and Hospice Care.

A visitation will be held 5-7 PM, Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Avenue South, Nampa, Idaho, 83651. A Graveside Service will be held at 10 AM, Friday, February 9, 2018 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 15862 South Indiana Avenue, Caldwell, Idaho 83605.

There's still time to send flowers to the Visitation at the Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on February 8, 2018.
