Was just thinking about Mr Bahr - and did the Google search and came across this site. Your dad was my first “real” boss at the GC. He was always patient and kind - and really surprised me and my fiancée (Nancy) when they drove up to NY for our wedding. My wife worked with Betty at Adventist Healthcare. I am sorry to see that both have passed - but I know that they had a blessed life - and that they weee a real blessing to all of the lives that they touched. I will look forward to seeing them again in heaven. Sincerely-Walt Fennell

Dear Family of Karl Bahr: Sorry to hear of your loss and wish Gods abundant blessings and presence as you grieve the loss of Karl. My many memories of Karl were, among other things, the times I returned from the Far East on furlough and sought his help in reconciling statement of account between the General Conference and Far Eastern Division. He was so patient and helpful. We spent hours together working through some of the complex transactions. May Gods arms of love encompass each of you is our prayer.

Bob & Carolyn Rawson.

One of the memories with Onkel Karl-Heinz was during the construction of the GC some 20 years ago. We were visiting from Michigan and Onkel K-H. wanted to show us the building under construction (which was not permitted). He just took a poster roll under his arm, pretended to be an architect and walked right in with us.

What characterized Karl-Heinz above all else is that he was a man of absolute and unwavering loyalty: to his Lord; to his church; to his country; and to his family. He never compromised his integrity. He was conscientious in all he did, exact and thoroughly organized. That would qualify him as a good German! We discovered when we met that we had much in common. He loved the beauty of nature, as we do; he loved nature photography; he loved his Subaru--he even had chosen the same color as we did!; and we both used only Zebra pens. Sadly, we lived on opposite sides of the continent, and our time together was limited. But that will change.

I remember that Karl, like my dad, used to play violin. He was always a very friendly person.

My favorite thing about Gpa was the twinkle in his eye right after he'd made a joke or pun. And he'd purse his lips together then smile after he felt he'd given you enough time to react on your own. 😊

Karl, or "Gpa" as I knew him, was a kind and generous man. In this photo, we are enjoying ice cream after my 8th grade graduation. That year was a very difficult one for me; I was dealing with several social and emotional issues, but he continued to treat me like a valued member of the family and that meant a lot to me. I never told him that.

We want to send our sympathy. We knew Karl and Betty through my mother (Betty was in nursing school with my mother, Jean Krohne) and enjoyed the occasional visits we had with them. We look forward to the resurrection when we can all meet again.

To the family of Karl-Heinz Bahr:
I first became a friend of Karl in
Seoul, Korea in 1935 when I was six rears old. In 1936 my parents and I moved to Manila in the Philippines. I became reacquainted with Karl and his parents when they, also, moved to the Philippines. World War II brought many changes to those of us who spent most of the war years in the Philippines. After the war the Bahrs and the Urquharts ended up in Angwin, Napa
County, California. Karl, Wendell Wilcox and I ended up sharing a room for two of our college years at Pacific Union College. Karl was my best man at my wedding in 1950. I saw Karl and his wife Betty off and on through the years. The last time I saw Karl and Betty was three years ago when they were living at Fletcher in North Carolina. Karl was a very good friend. I respected him and he was my best friend when we were living in the Philippines and in California. My youngest son was named Karl after Karl Bahr. I will miss him. Stanley P. UJrquhart.

To the Bahr Family,

For many years Karl and I served on the GC Executive Committee. We knew each other but had not worked on any project together. This all changed in 1994 and 1995 as the two of us were assigned the responsibility of preparing for the GC secession of the world church held in the city of Utrecht, the Netherlands. What a joy it was to be teamed with Karl. His coolness under pressure, his ability to think ahead and identify future challenges and handle them before they became a problem, his kindness and gentleness in dealing with people. All of these characteristics made possible because of his strong connection with the Godhead. During this session I learned to really know him and he became one of my close friends. How I look forward to our Lord's return when we will again be united.

Karl and I worked together in TRIPS, part of the treasury at the General Conference, for several years. It was a joy to work with him for he was truly a wonderful Christian gentleman. I pray the Lord will comfort and sustain Betty and the rest of his family during this sad time.

David and I met Karl and Betty when we moved to NC and the Fletcher Park Inn retirement center in 2007. From our first meeting with them we recognized a friendship that was to enrich and brighten our lives. They possessed a charm and warmth that brought encouragement and inclusion to the residents of the Center. We enjoyed social events and outings with the Bahrs but we look back with special gratitude for the times of prayer we shared. Their spiritual commitment was a positive influence within the retirement community.

Karl's life was exemplary in devotion to family, commitment to the Lord Jesus and the work of the SDA Church, faithfulness and loyalty to friends, and his abiding love and support of his dear Betty.

We loved her blueberry pies and his piano music at vespers. In the years since they moved to Idaho, there have been so many times when we have said, "Oh, if only the Bahrs were here, it all would have been perfect."

With Karl's family, we look for the day of the Lord's second coming, the resurrection and the great family reunions. I hope there will be a special heavenly radar that makes it possible to find dear, treasured friends quickly. We are eager to once more see the warmth of his smile and his large embrace. Until then, may we be faithful to the things Karl held close and dear to his heart.

The Osborns and Bahrs got acquainted when they were missionaries in Uruguay. My father had the privilege of working with Karl for many years in the South American Division and also at the General Conference. The Bahrs were a constant presence in my life for many decades. One of my most memorable gifts is when I left Uruguay to attend academy in California. As a farewell gift, he gave me first day covers of postage stamps from the Philippines under Japanese occupation. When I was President of PUC, the Bahrs spent a delightful several days staying at our home. What a great couple so supportive of the children of their peers.

Knowing Betty and Karl Bahr go back to our Maryland days in the 70's. They came to my home for Sabbath dinner and met his secretary, Evie Morgan Thume, who was with him at the GC for many years. She just retired this past year. They both moved to Hendersonville, NC where I have been for 30 years so our paths again crossed. They were a beautiful couple and I can't wait to see them again in heaven. Jesus come quickly!!!!! In Christian Love, Bill and Carol Onuska
