John William “Butch” Akers

July 7, 1941 – December 26, 2020

John William “Butch” Akers, 79, of Nampa was called home to his heavenly father on Saturday, December 26, 2020.  A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.

Butch was born on July 7, 1941 in Waverly, Iowa to A.H. “Red” and Lois Akers.  The family moved to Payette in 1947 where he attended school.  He served in the Navy and worked as a printer in a weekly newspaper in the late 1950’s.  Butch married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Akers on June 14, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa.  They were blessed with one daughter, Kelli.

Butch retired in 2006 from Amcor in Nampa, formerly known as Idaho Concrete, when he began working there in the late 1960’s.  From a very young age, he loved to go elk and deer hunting in Riggins with his son-in-law, Jody Goodman, who he called his “hunting buddy”.  Butch and Pat loved traveling with their family and enjoyed many trips on cruises and to Disneyland.  They were especially fond of their Christmas tree which was completely filled with Disney ornaments.  They enjoyed cheering on the Boise State Broncos, and Butch spent several football seasons working as a security guard around the stadium.

Butch is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Jody Goodman (Nampa); grandsons, Brandon and Cameron Goodman (Nampa); great granddaughter, Payton Goodman (Nampa); daughter, Teresa Akers (Boise); brother, David Akers (Prescott Valley, AZ); and sisters, Sandi Strawn (Kennewick, WA) and Nancy Chambers (Meridian, ID); and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pat; step-son, Michael Stokley; sister, JoAnne Akers Leigh; and both of his parents.
