Tribute

Helenea “Helen” Maryanne Szuszczewicz Perry passed away at her daughter’s home in Pocatello, Idaho on the morning of Wednesday, May 26th, 2021. She was 91 years old. Helen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 25th, 1929 to parents Adam and Mary Szuszczewicz.  She moved to Idaho in 1946 where she met and married her first husband Loyd V. Stewart; together they had two beautiful children, Michael L. Stewart and Sheila L. Nichols. As a young wife and mother, she worked as a bookkeeper for numerous local companies including a position at White Drug, as well as Murdoch Finance Company, Gem Fuel Company, W.R. Grose and various agricultural seed companies including Rudy Patrick Seed Co. and Albert Richim in Caldwell, Idaho. Helen was also a very accomplished seamstress and took up sewing when her children were young for extra income. She took pride in sewing all of her own clothing, and the clothing for her children until they were grown. She also picked fruit during the warm summer months to earn extra money to provide her children with the things that they might not have had otherwise.

After Helen and Loyd’s divorce in 1964, she met Blythe E. Perry and remarried on August 7th, 1965 in Caldwell, Idaho. Helen and Blythe built a life together. They purchased Clarks Flying Service in 1975, and together they owned and operated the business until it was sold in 1987. They semi-retired, but decided to continue to own and operate Perry’s Inc. from 1987 to 1992 where Helen was the Secretary and Treasurer. Helen took pride in participating in many local organizations including the First Congregational Church in Nampa, where she taught Sunday school, Bible School, and was a youth leader. She was a devoted fixture within the Nampa community holding positions as President for the Lady Elks of Nampa, the Nampa Jaycettes and the Nampa Credit Women’s Breakfast Club. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, a Boy Scouts of America Den Mother, a member of the Ladies Bowling Association, the Nampa Ladies Banking Association, the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary Treasurer, a member of the Broadmore Country Club, and the Idaho Aviation Agricultural Association Ladies. Helen and Blythe enjoyed their retirement by traveling, playing golf, and visiting their children and grandchildren on a regular basis. They truly enjoyed the company of each other, and the peace and quiet of their home.

Helena was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Mary Szuszczewicz ; her husband, Blythe E. Perry; her son, Michael L. Stewart; a brother and 5 sisters. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sheila L. Nichols, her 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
