Galen Clark Duree Sr. (78)
Galen Clark Duree Sr. of Nampa, ID passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on March 18, 2018 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Dad was born November 6, 1939 in Council, Idaho to David Raymond Duree and Mardell Eva Prawitz Duree. He was the eldest of four siblings.
After Dad graduated from Council High School in 1958, he enlisted in the Navy. He served as a Sonar Man Third Class, instructing new recruits in the techniques of sonar technology and was honorably discharged after 6 years of service. While Dad was stationed in New Port, Rhode Island, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Leslie Wilber, on a blind date. Mom and Dad were married June 30, 1962. After his discharge from the Navy, they moved back home to Caldwell, Idaho. Dad attended The College of Idaho in Caldwell, ID and gradated June 6, 1970 having earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He taught Mathematics and Science at Notus High School for 17 years before retiring from teaching in 1997. Each summer he spent working in the woods for the Forest Service. Dad worked for several years beyond his official retirement at MPC in Nampa, ID. Then he decided it was time to enjoy his gardening and home life with Mom.
Galen and Leslie created a strong legacy of love, joy, honor, respect, and an appreciation for God through their children Tammy, Galen Jr., Carolann, and Matthew. A farmer at heart, Dad was always willing to share his secrets for the greenest, healthiest lawn or the most bountiful garden. He was willing to lend a hand to anyone, and always did above and beyond what was expected. He loved to sit on the porch in the summer giving a friendly wave to passersby. He loved striking up a conversation with folks as he leaned on the garden hoe or as he worked the weeds from his garden. The American flag always flew over his yard, his flowers were the talk of the neighborhood, and no grandchild spent time in the yard without learning how to grow vegetables, weed flower beds, or prune roses.
Galen is proceeded in death by his parents and his daughter Tammy. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Leslie Duree. He is also survived by his son Galen Jr. (Amber) of Terre Haute, IN, his daughter Carolann of Orofino, ID, and his youngest son Matthew (Heather) of Nampa, ID, Galen III, Catherine and Annalisa Duree, Wyatt and Adrianna Roy, Jarrett and Devin Duree and their mother Rebecca Callaway Duree. Also surviving are Galen’s brother Gwen (Nadine) Duree of Notus, ID, sister Raedene Fackler of Emmett, ID, and brother Doyle (Ellen) Duree of Walnut Creek, CA.
Dad will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on in the loving memories he created in all who were blessed to know him. The family requests a private service at this time, however a public memorial Celebration of Life will be held in the summer, date to be announced.
