Eric Tinodaishe Gumbo

On June 7, 2021, Eric Gumbo, loving father, son, brother, and friend passed away at the age of 45.

Eric was born at Mnene Mission Hospital in Mberengwa, Zimbabwe on September 19, 1975. He received his early education at Victoria Junior School and Victoria High School in Masvingo. After completing secondary school, he enrolled at UMAA Institute where obtained a Diploma in Travel and Tourism. He also obtained a certificate in International Hotel Management from the Bulawayo Institute of Commercial Management. He arrived in the United States in 2001 to attend Idaho State University. Eric received his Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts in 2003 and Bachelor of Applied Technology with emphasis in Marketing in 2007. He started his career at J.R. Simplot in 2010, and received recognition for his years of service to the company.

Eric truly was a citizen of the world. He loved to travel and meet people from all walks of life. The natural beauty of the world inspired him, and he enjoyed camping trips. He and his son would frequently take long drives through the countryside, jamming their favorite reggae music (especially Bob Marley) while talking about history, politics, or just joking around. One could regularly expect to find him hanging out with friends and cheering on his favorite Premier League team: Chelsea. He was a devout Christian who attended services at Heritage Bible Church in Boise. His faith was always an important part of his life, and he strived to live a Godly lifestyle of prayer and service to others. Eric was a dependable, generous, easy-going soul whose laughter could fill any room, and whose mind and heart were open.

Eric is survived by his son, Marcus; his father, Mr. F. J. Gumbo; his sisters, Mrs. Nesta Manamike (Gumbo), Ms. Memory Rutendo Gumbo, and Ms. Gamuchirai Gumbo; his niece and nephews; cousins; and numerous other family members and friends. Eric is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
