Doris Elaine Gorostiza, 77, passed over on October 1, 2017 surrounded by her family and all of the love that they had for her. She was born as Doris Elaine Gerlach on May 25, 1940 to Alexander and Mary (Knopp) Gerlach in Heyburn, ID. Doris was born second of five children. She attended schools in Heyburn, ID area graduating from Minidoka County High School in 1958. After graduation she moved to Boise, ID to attend Ex-Cel-Cis Professional Beauty College, graduating with her Diploma of Cosmetology and Hair Styling in 1959. Doris continued on with a career in hair styling and later spent many years as a bookkeeper. Her most loved occupation though was that of being a homemaker, wife, and mother.

Doris married the love of her life, Michael (Mick) Grey Gorostiza on April 18, 1959 in Paul, ID. Doris and Mick were married for 51 years and had three daughters, Toni Michelle, Amber Denise, and Tamara Dawn.

Doris had a passion for being a homemaker, cooking, gardening, sewing, and beading, creating beautiful jewelry, and Christmas ornaments. Doris enjoyed cake decorating and made certain that everyone had a special wedding cake and birthday cake. Doris and Mick enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting together. Some of their fondest memories were with their friends in Donnelly, ID where they spent years on the weekends “having fun”.

Doris (Mom, Grandma Doris, Grandma Doughnuts, Sister) will be most remembered by all her family and friends for all of the love that she held for them and showed them by always opening her home and kitchen up to them. No one ever left her home hungry. Holidays and family gatherings were her special joy. She enjoyed her granddaughters and her great grandchildren beyond measure. Her family was her pride and joy.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Toni (Kelly) Rhoan and Amber (Rob) Sims; two sisters, Leona Swisher and Diane (Gary) Cronin; two brothers, Gerald (Wilma) Gerlach and Duane Gerlach; six granddaughters, Kristin (Roy) Perales, Brooke Rhoan, Jennifer (Brian) Tiedemann, Kaitlin (Cameron) Scaggs, Hannah Gorostiza, and Dakota Coleman; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Mikel, Amya, Chayston, Marcos, Kyler, Ava, Kinsey, Graiclen, Avanly, Amelia, Tavin, Khloe, Brandon and Jaxson; and many special in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Gorostiza; her daughter, Tamara Gorostiza; and her parents, Alexander and Mary Gerlach.

A viewing will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Avenue South, Nampa, ID 83651 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the funeral chapel.

The family would like to give special thanks to Streamside Assisted Living Administration and Staff for taking special care of their Mom and Grandma, going above and beyond what could be asked or expected to make Mom’s “home” all she wished it to be and providing us with everything needed to take care of our Mom and Grandma. Also for keeping her at home where she was comfortable. Thank you for making her feel special and loving her like we do! We also would like to extend a special thank you to Andrea with Heart and Home Hospice for being Mom’s angel and Toni’s biggest support person and cheerleader. You are one in a million and we thank God that He sent you to us!

Mom (Grandma Doris, Grandma Doughnuts), as our hearts break here for you having to leave us, we rejoice in knowing that we will all be together one day for all eternity. Thank you for knitting us all together so tightly and planting the importance of family in our hearts. You have been such a mighty woman of strength and courage. You are an amazing example of what a wife, mother, and grandmother should be. You are home now and can rejoice in that fact that you accomplished ALL that God had for you to do here. Rest now, Momma, and we shall be with you soon.
