Tribute

Donald Dean Mercier was born January 26, 1941, to Joseph & Wilma (Patch) Mercier in Sidney MT. Don passed away peacefully at home February 23rd, 2022.  Don grew up in Montana and graduated from Sidney High School, Sidney MT in 1959. Don worked as a tree trimmer out of high school and was working in Neihart MT when he met the love of his life Mila. Don and Mila were married on September 21st, 1963. They had two sons, Don Jr. 57 of Newburgh, New York and Paul (Lisa) 54 of Nampa, Idaho. Don & Mila moved extensively in the early years of their marriage due to Don’s job. To bring an end to all the moving Don took a job with the Montana Power Company in June of 1970 as a meter reader later advancing to the hydroelectric division where he remained until the end of 2002 when he retired. During his time with Montana Power, they truly found a home in Wolf Creek, Montana where they spent 35 years. Don and Mila loved the Wolf Creek community and had a great network of friends. Don was also a Hunters Safety Instructor for over 30 years while he was in Wolf Creek. Early in their retirement Mila was struck with Alzheimer’s disease and Don became Mila’s caregiver. Don was an excellent caregiver for Mila but in 2010 Don & Mila moved to Nampa ID to be closer to family & possible care centers for Mila. Mila passed away in 2013 but Don remained in Nampa staying close to family until his death. Don was preceded in death by his wife Mila, parents, brother Monty and Sister Maxine. Don is survived by his two sons, daughter in-law Lisa, brother Tim and Sister Jody both of Sidney MT., three grandsons Andrew (Mike), Matthew and Cal (Carmen) and two Great Granddaughters Chloe & Clara. There are numerous nieces & nephews who were all very special to Don. Don was a hardworking, honest man who built a good life for himself and his family and enjoyed the simple things in life. Don will be laid to rest in Minnesota with his wife Mila early this summer. Cremation is under the direction of Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, Nampa ID.
