Tribute

Donald L Jones passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with acute leukemia.

Don was born on December 28, 1931 to Jack and Myrtle Jones in Roswell, ID. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1950 as class president and earned notable track record.  He joined the Air Force right after high school and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Co. After he was discharged in 1953 he decided to stay in Denver where he married Alice Baalson. From this union his son, Jim, was born and later his daughter, Janice. Don worked for AM Corp. for 22 years, then tried his hand at his own trucking business. Deciding that wasn’t for him, he went to work for Picker International for the next 18 years where he serviced CAT scans, MRI’s and nuclear medicine in several western states until his retirement in 1996.

Don had many hobbies but his biggest love was flying and he owned several airplanes throughout his life. Some of his other hobbies were hiking, biking, scuba diving, training & showing quarter horses, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, ham radio, restoring tractors and landscaping.

In 1997 he married Sherry and acquired 4 stepchildren, Eric, Mike, Gunnar and Wendee. He and Sherry then moved home to Idaho to build their home and fulfill his dream of living on a Skypark on the Snake River. The next 22 years were filled with flying adventures, exploring the Owyhees and serving as a volunteer fireman with the Murphy Reynolds Wilson Fire District.

Don is survived by his wife Sherry, their 6 children, 18 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.  Also his sisters, Dorothy, Betty, Mary (Shorty) & his brother, Vic (Hafdis) and many nieces, nephews & cousins too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Alice, his sister, Elaine, and three brother-in-laws, Leo, Homer, and Louis.

Husband, Dad, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, Friend....you were a role model to all of us.  You taught us love, hard work, determination, honesty, fun and so much more. You will be dearly missed, but will continue to inspire us always.

There will be a Celebration of Don’s life on January 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Southside Blvd. United Methodist Church. 5420 Southside Blvd., Nampa, ID 83686. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Southside Blvd. United Methodist Church at 5420 Southside Blvd., Nampa, ID 83686 or to the Murphy Reynolds Wilson Fire District, 11606 ID Hwy. 78, Melba, ID 83641.
