Tribute

Diann Lee (Hurd) Haynes

Diann Lee (Hurd) Haynes passed away peacefully April 3rd, 2022, in Nampa, Idaho after a long health battle. Diann was born on February 5th, 1951, in Weiser Idaho. She was the second of six children born to W.D. and Edna Hurd.

Apart from one year in Wendell Idaho, Diann’s early years were spent in Weiser Idaho. The rural Idaho countryside always held a special place in her heart and youth was full of time spent in the fields with family and friends picking strawberries and plums and tending beets and onions. In her teens, she worked a variety of jobs including at Pac Out, a Nursing home, and the Credit Bureau at the Weiser County Courthouse. Diann was involved with city sports and high school athletics in her teens, which she excelled at.

After high school, Diann went on to attend Boise State College, earning a degree in Physical Education and English. She began her teaching career in Cambridge Idaho in 1973, where she met her lifelong friend Anette. They spent several years both teaching and living as roommates with Diann’s beloved cat Airy, spending their free time cruising in Diann’s red and black 1973 Z28 Chevy Camaro.

In 1978, while finishing her English degree at the University of Idaho, Diann was living in Moscow Idaho and working for a gas station in the afternoons, she met the love of her life Dan Haynes. Both fresh off heartbreaks, meeting one another was love at first sight and they spent every spare minute with each other. Three months later, Dan and Diann married on July 29th, 1978, in Diann’s hometown of Weiser Idaho.

A week later, the couple placed a yearlong food supply order, loaded into Dan’s pickup truck, and started the trek to Seattle. From where they put all their earthly possessions onto a barge with the destination of Bush Bethel Alaska. Diann had accepted a lucrative contract to teach in the gifted and talented English program at Bethel Regional High School in Bush Bethel Alaska.

Diann and Dan moved from Bush Bethel to Anchorage Alaska in spring of 1982, where Dan took a job and Diann who was pregnant, prepared for their new family member’s arrival. Kimberly Ann, Diann’s second greatest love was born June 10th, 1982, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage Alaska.

With their family expanded and the distance feeling even greater than ever, Diann, Dan, and Kim made the move from Alaska to Caldwell Idaho in August of 1982. Family was the most important thing to Diann, and she wanted her only child to have the experience of growing up surrounded by the love of her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Diann went to work as a substitute teacher, eventually taking a full-time teaching position at Wilson Junior High in Caldwell Idaho. Dan and Diann moved to Nampa when Kim was a child, but Diann continued teaching for the Caldwell School District. Later she moved onto Syringa Middle School. Diann retired from teaching in 2004.

Diann made friends and went out of her way to love and care for everyone she met, regardless of who they were. She loved helping others, and she brought out the best in the people around her. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms, be it family, friends, or strangers. She loved and treated Kim’s friends like they were her own. Anyone who met Diann, will forever be grateful for the lessons they learned, and the impact she had on their lives.

Diann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, teaching, classic cars, but a lifetime passion was animals, something she shared with her daughter Kim.

There are no words that can fully explain the love, dedication, and strength that Diann had, or the significance of the loss that her passing has on the people who loved her. Diann is survived by her loving and devoted husband Dan, and adoring and dedicated daughter Kimberly of Nampa, Idaho. Brothers Dwight (Therese) Hurd, Budd (Lori) Hurd, Monte (Kris) Hurd, and sister Teresa (Scott) Mansor. Brother-in-law Tony (Susie) Haynes, and mother-in-law Donna Haynes. As well as many nieces and nephews who she cherished greatly. Diann is preceded in death by her parents, W.D. and Edna Hurd, father-in-law Cliff Haynes, and sister and brother-in-law Darla and Jim Whiting.  Diann also has numerous furry family members who she loved that she lost throughout her life. Diann will be forever missed, but her family knows she was greeted and welcomed by those who love her and have gone before her.
