On September 11, 2021, Daniel Bennett Mainord went to be with Our Lord, after a two-year battle with cancer, at his home in Nampa, ID.  Daniel grew up in East Texas where he graduated from Irving High School and then attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. In May,1963, Dan joined the U.S. Coast Guard. After Basic Training, he attended Aviation Electronics Technical "A" School. Dan was proud to serve on many Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing aircraft conducting Search and Rescue and Drug Interdiction Missions.  He received an Air Medal Awarded by the President of the United States for Meritorious Achievement in an Aerial Flight, February 1974. Dan also received the Coast Guard Achievement Medal from the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard.  Dan enjoyed his assignments to Guam and Yap Island in the Pacific during his Coast Guard Career.

After retiring from the Coast Guard with 21 years of service, Dan operated his own portable Woodmizer Sawmill in Northeastern, Washington, where he built his first cabin with Sandy, his first wife. He continued to process lumber for many customer's structures after moving to Newport, WA. for 14 years. Along with running a Backhoe business, Dan and his second wife, Barbara, operated Whitetail Butte Gallery on-line and at two Priest Lake, Idaho locations. Dan later began 15 years of employment with Albeni Falls Building Supply in Oldtown, Idaho, as the Tool Manager.  During that time, he started a Tool Repair Shop at the Building Supply. He enjoyed yearly trips to Vendor Shows.

Dan was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed riding his horses and floating the river.  His favorite Coast Guard Station was Kodiak, Alaska, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  In 1995 Dan and Barbara moved to an old log cabin which Dan restored to make it a beautiful home on Priest River in North Idaho. Dan continued to hunt and fish but never got that elusive Elk.
