Tribute

Dallas Lee Kirby (Nov. 4, 1933-Sept. 2, 2023)

On September 2, 2023, Heaven gained another angel, when Dallas Lee Kirby peacefully gained his wings, surrounded by his wife, daughter, and granddaughter.

Dallas was born on November 4, 1933, in Richmond, Kentucky to Mary Etta and Sam Kirby. He was raised on the family farm with his siblings, until 1953 when he joined the Air Force to serve his country. During his early service years while serving in England, Dallas met the love of his life, Jean Tatlock. They were married on April 20, 1957. During their marriage, they were blessed with three daughters, Ellen, Caroline, and Patricia. As a family, throughout his service years, they traveled the world together. But when Dallas was called to go to Vietnam, Thailand, and many other TDY missions, he knew Jean would take great care of his girls while he was away. Dallas was proud of his 23 years of service to his country, and he had many stories that he loved to share with family and friends.

When Dallas retired from the Air Force in 1976 , they moved to Caldwell, Idaho, where he started Dallas’s Saw Shop. Eventually Dallas and Jean returned to Richmond, Kentucky, where he continued his passion of working on small engines, opening another small engine shop.

Through the years, Dallas and Jean traveled the US in their motorhome, visiting their 3 girls and 8 grandchildren, who were the love of their lives, and oh the stories they all can tell. Their biggest joy was being with family.

When Dallas and Jean retired from the small engine business, they returned to Idaho to enjoy their retirement days, continuing their love of travel, often going south for the winter. Jean passed away on December 31, 2000.

Dallas was lucky enough to meet his other love, Vera Lee Huttman. They were married on November 8, 2003, and made their home together in Meridian, Idaho. Dallas not only gained a wonderful wife, but he also gained 3 additional “daughters”, Jennifer, Jessica, and Cora, along with their spouses and children.

Dallas continued his love of travel and adventures with Vera Lee. They loved to go in the motorhome, square dancing, helping at the Nampa Senior Center and enjoying their church family. You could usually find them volunteering somewhere in the community. Early this year, due to health reasons, they moved to assisted living in Nampa, Idaho.

Dallas leaves behind his wife Vera Lee, his daughters, Caroline Dunn (Eddy), Patricia Hurt (Wade), son-in-law Alan Genung, stepdaughters Jennifer Funk (Jeff), Jessica Gulley (Mike), Cora Miller (Dan), his sister Libby Tipton, brother Bill Kirby, and his wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, daughter Ellen Genung, brothers Sam Jr., May, Harold, and sister Susie Tussey, along with several brother and sisters-in-law.

Dallas will be greatly missed by all who loved him, but he is finally at peace in heaven.
