Mable Lena (O’Neill) Wardlaw made her transition to her heavenly home on February 7, 2017. She was born on July 14, 1920 on a farm near Clyde in Walla Walla County, Washington to Cornelius Henry and Mary (Lee) O’Neill. She was the second of four children and outlived all of her siblings. She moved to the Medford, Oregon area with her family when she was eight. She lived there through her high school years graduating from high school in Medford in 1937. She moved to southern California to attend Pacific Bible College and while there met the love of her life, David Wardlaw. They married in 1943 and in 1944 moved to Nampa, Idaho where David completed his college degree in preparation for ministry in the Church of the Nazarene. For 32 years they pastored Nazarene congregations in five Oregon towns – Toledo, Canby, Bend, Oakridge and Culver. In 1977, they answered a request to become house parents for missionary children attending boarding school in Pietermaritzburg, S. Africa. Mable cooked and managed the household, where up to twelve teenagers kept life interesting and full. This assignment lasted until 1985. She and David then settled into retirement in Nampa. David preceded her in death in 2003. Mable is survived by her four children and their spouses. Paul and Donna Wardlaw of Silverthorne, CO; Verna and Steve Hall of Nampa; Rex Wardaw and Becky Brauer of Seattle, WA; and Ray and Linda Wardlaw of Sahuarita, AZ. She also leaves eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is remembered for her strong drive and active involvement in ministry as a pastor’s wife with a great love for children, wanting them to experience the love of our Savior. She even completed a Christian education degree at NNU in 1971 at 51 years of age. All who knew her will miss her high energy and the verbal mischief she loved to create. Today she is resting in her heavenly home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to hands of Hope, 1201 S. Powerline Rd, Nampa, ID 83686; Lifeline Pregnancy Center, 1323 12th Ave S.
