June Frances Martens (née Warren) passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2017. Born in Rupert, Idaho June 2, 1929 to LeRoy ("Roy") and Nancy Warren (née Deno), June grew up there with her older brother LeRoy. As a girl she would help her Grandpa Deno in his candy store. Some time after her mother passed away, the family moved to Nampa during June's high school years, and there she gained a step-mom and ultimately three siblings. June began attending Zion Lutheran Church where she met and married her life-long love, Leonard Martens. After a year or so of apartment living, they moved to the country and started farming. She enjoyed gardening, and helped Leonard on the farm whenever needed. She irrigated, fed cattle, harvested beets, and once guarded a few escaped cows, staving off four coyotes by calmly singing to them until help arrived.

An accomplished seamstress and craftswoman, June always found ways to provide her family extra luxuries even in the early years when money was sometimes tight. She painted rooms, and sewed curtains, slip covers, and most of the clothing for herself and her two daughters. She also built her own kitchen cabinets from scratch, as well as a picnic table and tree bench, teaching her daughters that women could certainly use woodworking tools and paintbrushes. Frequently when shopping with her kids, she'd point to something they wanted and whisper, "We can make that at home!"

She was an enthusiast of reading, photography, and rock hunting (which she shared with Leonard and with her brother's family), and for many years June was also delighted by new technology. She was excited to get new jewelry-making equipment, a tape recorder and a microwave when they became available. (Although after trying one for awhile, she drew the line at computers.)

Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she always had hugs and cookies at the ready when they came to visit. She will be greatly missed.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Martens, daughter Shari Martinez (née Martens), brothers LeRoy and Gary Warren, father Roy Warren, mother Nancy Deno, and step-mother Rose Warren. She is survived by sisters Karlene Petersen and Gloria Palenske, daughter Susan Teeter, son-in-law José Luis Martinez, grandchildren Chris (Justine) Teeter, Erica Teeter (Doug Francisco), José (Vanessa) Martinez, William (Maria) Martinez, Cherish (Todd) Graham, Cody (Alysha) Martinez, Angel Martinez, Lisa Alonzo, and many beloved great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa, Idaho on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 1:00 PM, followed by a short graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
