Mary Elaine Jesse Roberts (Goodman) Chafin, 90, passed away on May 16, 2017 in Nampa, Idaho.  She was born to John William and Mary Lee (Morton) Roberts on October 12, 1926 in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

She was raised in Dillion, Montana, graduating from Beaverhead High School in 1944.

Elaine worked for Union Pacific Railroad from 1944 to 1947 as a telegrapher.

Elaine and Bennett Owen had a son named Michael Lee Schlegel on April 28, 1946.

Elaine married Sherman “Bud” Wesley Goodman on March 20, 1947 in Butte, Montana. They divorced in 1972.  They raised five children in Lima, MT, Glenns Ferry and Nampa; Dixie Lee Goodman, Sherman “Buddy” Lewis Goodman, Marsha Lynne Goodman Brasseaux, Shirle Jeanne Goodman Anderson and Marietta Goodman Miller.

Elaine married Tom Chafin in 1973 in Glenns Ferry. They were married for 22 years. He passed away in 1995.

Elaine lived in Nampa from 1958 to 1969. She worked for Grange Mutual in Nampa and Caxton Printing in Caldwell.

She moved to Glenns Ferry in 1969 where she worked at Idaho State Bank for 20 years, retiring as Jr. Vice President.

Elaine and Tom lived in King Hill on their Round Rock Ranch. Many loving memories are shared at their home for all our families.

Elaine is survived by daughters; Marsha of Pocatello, ID and Shirle of Meridian, ID; step-son, Sherman “Buddy” (Kaye) of Oregon; step-daughter, Janey Chafin of Nampa; step-son, Dan Chafin of Boise; two sister-in-laws, Pat Roberts of Colorado and Mary Lee Roberts of Texas; her dearest “daughter friend”, Treva Mayo; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; John W and Afton Roberts and May Lee and Fred Schlegel; one son, Michael Lee Schlegel; one daughter, Marietta Goodman Miller; one step-daughter, Dixie Lee Goodman; two step-sons, Mickey Chafin and Rex Chafin; grandchildren, Jeffrey Todd Goodman, Christopher Anderson, Wendy Leigh Miller;  and one great-grandson, Trevin Griffin.

Elaine spent the past five years in Nampa under the care of her oldest granddaughter, Heidi Freeman (Dennis Kershner) and their four children.

Per the request of Elaine, there will be a viewing at the VFW Hall in Glenns Ferry, Idaho on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 12 Noon – 1:00 PM with a procession to Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Federated of the Blind.
