Dora Payne (Reynolds) passed away peacefully September 14, 2017 at the age of 88. Born on a farm in Kuna, Idaho on August 20, 1929 to Dan and Helen Reynolds, she was the fourth of ten children. Growing up with a host of siblings, learning the ins and outs of farm-work, and attending Mora school all deeply shaped Dora’s perspective and values.

In 1947 Dora met Willard, the love of her life, at Pete's Tavern in Nampa. A year later they were married and began a life together that lasted 67 years. They raised two wonderful children, Cheryl Johnson and Dan Payne. For 41 years they farmed twenty acres on Ten Mile Road, raising horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens. During that time Dora held a number of jobs, eventually retiring from The Idaho State School and Hospital, where she supervised the laundry.

In her free time, Dora loved to read, garden, paint, write, and spend time with her family. A social person by nature, she was always up for a good discussion or debate. And if you had a joke to share, even better! Her sense of humor and compassion were appreciated by all who knew her.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband Willard. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Johnson and son Dan Payne, their spouses Kerry Johnson and Lori Payne, grandchildren Josh Shapel, Jeremiah Shapel, Naomi Gorringe, Mecilah Morales, Nycole Keeney, Monica Payne, Marley Payne, and Keisha Cassady, and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 3:00 PM, 10100 North Horseshoe Bend Road. Immediately following the service there will be a memorial dinner at the Garden City Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Boise State Radio or the Knights of Columbus.
