Bernard (Bernie) W. Stewart passed away at his residence at the age of 83, on February 1, 2017 with his family by his side. Bernie was born on November 29, 1933 in Medford Oregon to Vern Stewart and Mildred Medley Stewart.  After graduating from Hayward High School in California, Bernie worked as a tile setter with his father, and then an Apprentice plumber for the U.S.  Navy before joining the United States Air Force. Bernie served 20 years as a Fighter Pilot and Instructor from 1953-1973, which were indeed the best years of his life! After retiring from the Air Force he opened up Stewart Construction where he built homes.  Throughout his life Bernie lived in various places around the globe, Oregon, California, South Dakota, Texas, England, Nevada, Arizona and eventually landed in Idaho.

Bernie enjoyed being outside, and was an avid wildlife lover. He also enjoyed sharing his life experiences with his children and others.  Bernie had many hobbies, many of which included fishing, hunting, gardening and rock hounding.

Bernie is survived by his Brother; John Dickel, his Children; Dana Bettencourt, Karen (Don) Harbich, David (Terri) Stewart and Scott (Brenda) Stewart;  His stepchildren Kathyren (Mike) Braden, and Lisa (Bruce) Girkin; His Grandchildren; Dara Tafoya, Ryan Bettencourt, Glenn (Laura) Bettencourt, Joseph Bettencourt, Christopher Harbich, Bryan Harbich, David Wayne Scott (Sari)  Stewart, Stephanie (Corey) Shepherd, Holly Stewart, Bob Braden, Jeff (Kristen)  Braden, Bryce (Gwen)  Girkin, and Brandon Girkin; his great grandchildren; Taylor Gonzales, Trey Tafoya, Tyson Tafoya, Myah Bettencourt, Lilly Bettencourt, Max Bettencourt, Hallie Stewart, Harper Stewart, Valen Shepherd, and Adriana Braden; One great great grandson Denzel Gonzales.  He is preceded in death by his Grandparents Byrd and Mable Medley, Father Vern Stewart, Mother Mildred Dickel, Step father Conover Dickel and his Wife Sharon Stewart.

Memorial contributions can be made either to the Lions Club, a Veterans Organization or the WarHawk Air Museum here in Nampa, Idaho. Dad has contributed many of his personal service items to the WarHawk Air Museum and has them on display for all to enjoy. A remembered reassurance of Dad’s to others in their time of need “Don’t worry, everything is going to be OK”
