Our father, husband, brother, son, grandfather, and friend, James “Bud” Roger Overbey, age 71 of Caldwell, Idaho left us a treasure of his memory on July 23, 2014.
James was born on December 29, 1942 to Faye Lorton-Overbey and the late James L. Overbey in Neosho, MO. James grew up in East St. Louis where he graduated from East St. Louis High School in 1961.
In 1964 James was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. Once James returned from Germany he obtained employment as a lineman with AT&T/Qwest. As a lineman, James was fortunate to travel to 48 states and after 39 years of dedication, James retired from AT&T/Quest in 2005.
James decided to make his primary residence in Caldwell Idaho in 1979, which is where he met Matilda, the love of his life. They married in August of 1981, where James lovingly took on the role of being a father to Matilda’s three children by caring and loving them as his own. James and Matilda were married for 33 years.
James had multiple hobbies one of which was a 1964 Impala SuperSport that took him 13 years to refurbish to its original prestige. James and Matilda joined a car club, “Cruisin Classics” and enjoyed cruising in their car together.
James also loved the outdoors; he loved hunting, camping, snowmobiling, boating, and spending quality time with his family at his vacation home in Cascade. James loved to make sure that when he wanted to cut wood for his fireplace, his entire family would be there to participate.
James is survived by his wife Matilda Overbey, his three children, Jacqueline Franco-Valdez, Simon (Maria) Franco, Guy (Maggie) Franco, his mother Faye Goldacker, his sister, Sherry Sandrock, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two nieces, four great nieces, one nephew, one great nephew, and a special family friend Alpha Rodriguez. James was preceded in death by his father James L. Overbey and stepfather Korkey Goldacker.
James will be missed for his stubborn nature, his willingness to never say no and for his long conversations.
The family would like to thank, James’ friends, Treasure Valley Hospice for their support through this difficult time, to MSTI for their time and dedication, and to Dr. Fiorentino and the nursing staff at St. Lukes in Boise, for their compassionate care.
The family would request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Luke's MSTI Outpatient Children’s Cancer Clinic at 190 E. Bannock Street Boise, ID 83712 Phone: (208) 381-2804.
Services are under the care of Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel in Nampa. A viewing for James will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 5-7 PM. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave S.  with the burial following at Canyon Hill Cemetery.
